Egerton School is committed to safeguarding and promoting the welfare of children and expects all staff and volunteers to share this commitment.

Egerton School building and grounds is a no smoking environment.

EGERTON SCHOOL AIMS TO BE A NUT FREE SCHOOL. As we have children in school who have a severe allergic reaction to peanuts parents are asked not to send any snacks or packed lunches with food containing nuts.

School Nurses Members of the school nurse team visit school to conduct health checks on the children such as hearing and sight tests. Letters are always sent before these checks and, if you do not want your child to be seen, you can let them know.

Absence

Please inform the school by 9:30 a.m. on the first day if for any reason your child is absent from school. For visits to the dentist, clinics etc., a message in advance is required so that a leave of absence permit can be given.

Leave of absence for exceptional circumstances should always be requested by means of a letter to the Headteacher and the relevant forms completed. Holidays during term time are not authorised by school.

Illness

If children are absent through illness and you are in doubt whether to send them back to school, it is better to err on the side of caution and keep them off until they are fully fit. Similarly, if they are ill during the night but seem fit in the morning it would be preferable for them to have a quiet day at home. If your child becomes ill during the school day, we shall care for them appropriately but try to contact you immediately. To aid this process please ensure we have an up to date contact number in school. It is parents’ responsibility to keep school informed of any changes in phone numbers and address.

Leave of Absence Permit Children leaving the premises, for any reason during the day, are required to have an exit permit. Please inform the office the day before the permit is needed.

Medicine

Parents are asked to complete a medical form if you wish school to administer medicine, which we are happy to do.

Parents are requested to notify the school of any medical conditions their child suffers from e.g. asthma, allergies.

Policies relating to children’s health care needs in school may be found on the school website in the ‘Our Documents’ section.

Collecting Your Child

If for any reason you are delayed in picking up your child, please notify school. Children are asked to stay with their teacher until they are collected. If the person collecting them has not arrived, they will then be taken to the entrance hall where a senior member of staff will be responsible for them until 3:45 p.m. after which time they will be placed in the Out of School Club and a charge will be made. If you will be delayed any longer then please make suitable arrangements and inform school.

If someone different is collecting your child, please let the class teacher know. This is especially important for Reception children. If it is a last minute change of plan then please telephone school to let us know.

We cannot let your child go with another adult unless we have been informed.
