The teaching of an ambitious English curriculum is at the heart of all we do in order to foster a deep love of learning. Our unique curriculum is an enhancement of the National Curriculum and through its delivery we ensure that key knowledge, skills, values and cultural capital are embedded into the opportunities that we provide for our children. Egerton CP School sustains the delivery of a broad and rich curriculum ensuring that children make progress in that they know more, remember more and are able to do more.
At Egerton, we believe that a high-quality education in English will teach pupils to speak, read and write fluently. Our aim is to equip each child with the necessary English skills needed to express themselves creatively, imaginatively and to communicate with others effectively. In addition, our English curriculum should enhance a pupil’s ability to access all other areas of the curriculum allowing them to participate in all subjects with a sense of achievement. We will ensure that those children identified as exceeding are continuously challenged to achieve their best possible outcomes. We believe that children identified with SEND are given opportunities through their individualised provision.
At Egerton we have designed our English Curriculum with the intent to:
Ensure reading is prioritised to allow children to access the curriculum. To ensure a rigorous and sequential approach to the reading curriculum to develop pupil’s fluency, confidence and enjoyment in reading.
To develop language, comprehension and composition by talking, listening to and talking about stories, and by learning about poetry and songs.
To provide a progressive curriculum that enables children to read a breadth of genres to develop a love of reading.
