Art & Design
At Egerton, we are ambitious for all children to Learn personal, social and academic skills and knowledge, Achieve their potential in all aspects of their lives and Aspire to bright futures both in careers and relationships in the modern world we live in. When children secure a place at our school, we firmly believe that they belong at Egerton, and in belonging here, every child is given the opportunity to succeed.
At Egerton Primary School, we want our children to love art, craft and design. We want them to have no limits as to what their ambitions are, and to grow up wanting to be illustrators, graphic designers, fashion designers, architects or printmakers. Our Art curriculum is designed to engage, inspire and challenge all pupils, whilst equipping them with the knowledge and skills to be able to experiment, invent and create their own works of art. As pupils progress, they should gain a deeper understanding of how Art and Design reflects and shapes our history, and how it contributes to the culture, creativity and wealth of our world. We want to equip our children with not only the minimum statutory requirements of the Art and Design National Curriculum but to prepare them for the opportunities, responsibilities and experiences of later life. We want our children to use the local area as inspiration, to learn from other cultures and to respect diversity. To that end, we have carefully selected a wide range of unique and diverse artists, craft makers and designers for children to study.
We want our children to produce creative work, exploring their ideas and recording their experiences. We want our children to become proficient in drawing, painting, sculpture and other art, craft and design techniques. We believe our children should develop the skills to evaluate and analyse creative works using the language of art, craft and design. We want our children at Egerton School to know about great artists, craft makers and designers, and understand the historical and cultural development of their art forms.
